The ideal home for Dwarf Cory catfish is a smaller softwater aquarium with a sandy substrate and plenty of hiding spots among plants and driftwood. They are not suitable for community tanks as they may feel intimidated or become prey for larger tankmates. These peaceful and shoaling fish are known for spending time in midwater, and floating plants can help to diffuse bright lighting. For the best results, use peat filtration to keep the water soft and acidic, which will enhance the fish's colorful appearance.
In their natural habitat, Dwarf Cories often form groups with the similar-looking Reed Tetra (Hyphessobrycon elachys). It is recommended to keep a school of at least 10 Dwarf Cories in order to increase their confidence and improve the appearance of the group. Other potential tankmates include tiny characins like Ember or Reed Tetras, small Rasboras (Boraras spp.), and small, decorative shrimps such as Red Crystals or Cherries. These fish are sensitive to high nitrate levels and require frequent partial water changes. Corydoras have the unique ability to breathe air through their intestines, so it is important to leave a small gap between the water surface and the cover slides to allow them to rise up and take in air throughout the day.
