The Tomenthosus Filefish, also known as the Aiptasia eating Filefish, is a mottled fish with shades of green, brown, and tan. It is a peaceful species and generally not aggressive towards its own genus, making it suitable for larger aquariums of at least 30 gallons. However, caution should be taken when housing small invertebrates with this fish.
The Tomenthosus Filefish, also known as Acreichthys tomenthosus, is an expert at controlling the Aiptasia anemone population in home aquariums. While they may also nibble at soft and stony corals, their diet should consist of shaved shrimp, squid, scallop, mysis shrimp, freeze-dried krill soaked in a vitamin supplement, and frozen marine algae. To maintain optimal health, these fish should be fed small portions multiple times per day. This species has been observed to successfully reproduce in captivity, with males typically being larger than females and possessing bristle-like hairs along their caudal peduncle.
