TIP from FNM: Managing Water Quality

  • Change your freshwater systems partially on a regular basis 
  • Change consistently about 15-20% on weekly basis to keep your tank free from harmful bacteria
  • Better practice is to change in smaller quantity frequently like twice weekly
  • Activated carbon should be replaced monthly if possible 

Here's why:

  • Water changes will help to remove compounds that are not removed by any filtration methods such as nitrates and phosphates 
  • Accumulated detritus and waste will be cleaned
