Button scolymias are a large polyp stony coral (LPS) and is a smaller variant of the normal scolymia. They are a relatively hardly LPS and will thrive in a stable and mature tank. This scolymia has a green/purple body and light orange stripes around its mouth, with an approximate size of 2-3cm.
Low to medium (50-150 par) is recommended.
Low to medium flow will suit button scolymias. High direct flow may cause its flesh to tear against its skeleton which can cause tissue loss.
Scolymias will benefit greatly from supplemental feeding. large foods such as mysis shrimp or coral pellets will be readily taken by the coral. Feeding will help to improve its colour and size overtime.
This is a general guideline. Scolymias are tolerable of slightly high nitrates, high phosphate levels will inhibit coral calcification, preventing growth. A good guideline will be to target stable parameters as long as they are within a reasonable range.
