Scolymia are a large polyp stony coral, that are highly sought after by many hobbyist. They come in a large variety of intense colours and tend to fetch a high price, they are also relatively easy to care for. These specimens come in a large variety of colours.
.
Scolymia are not light demanding and do not usually require intense lighting, however their colours do change moderately with different intensities and spectrums.
Low or moderate indirect water flow is recommended, high flow tends to inhibit the coral from opening up fully.
Scolymia derive most of their energy from their zooxanthellae, however they are capable of being fed and will benefit from it, often showing better colouration and polyp extension. They are able to take large meaty foods such as mysis and commercial coral foods.
This is a general guideline. Scolymia are tolerable of higher nitrate and phosphate levels. It is ideal to keep all these parameters within range as they will change with time, due to scolymia being an LPS. A good guideline will be to target stable parameters as long as they are within a reasonable range.
