Chalices are a type of large polyp stony (LPS) coral that come in a large variety of colors and growth patterns, they are not as easy to keep compared to other LPS corals as they tend to be more sensitive. These specimens are approximately 1.5 - 2 inches in length.
Chalice prefer medium lighting (50 - 150 par) as they tend to bleach under higher lighting. Their colouration does not change much with the intensity of lighting.
Water movement is not a big issue as they are tolerant of a wide range of flow patterns, however be sure not to blast the coral from a single direction consistently.
Chalice derive most of their energy from their zooxanthellae. However they will benefit from direct feeding with feeds such as mysis or coral foods, often showing better extension and colouration after being fed.
This is a general guideline, chalices are rather sensitive to these parameters, especially to sudden changes or swings. It is ideal to keep all these parameters within range as they will change with time, due to chalices being an LPS. A good guideline will be to target stable parameters as long as they are within a reasonable range.
