Blastomussa are a large polyp stony coral (LPS) that are relatively easy to care for. They do not have much requirements for flow and light and are easy to propagate and feed, making them a good LPS for individuals looking to start keeping LPS. This blastomussa merletti has a red rim with a green mouth with 2 heads. It is mounted on a 2 cm frag plug.
.
Blastomussa are a type of coral that prefers low to dim light (30-50 par). They show better polyp extension and show more vibrant colours under these conditions.
.
Moderate turbulent water flow will be recommended, blastomussa is not picky on the type of flow as long as it is not direct.
.
Feeding is recommended to supplement the coral, they will show better colouration and growth when fed. Different types of food such as mysis or coral foods can be used.
.
This is a general guideline. Blastomussa are tolerable of slightly high nitrates, high phosphate levels will inhibit coral calcification, preventing growth. A good guideline will be to target stable parameters as long as they are within a reasonable range.
