Acanthophyllia are a type of large polyp stony coral (LPS) and are often locally referred to as 'prata' coral, due to its flat shape. They have a meaty and large overall shape, however they are not aggressive towards their neighbors. This acanthophyllia features different shades of green throughout its mouth and outer body, its approximate size when open is 12 - 13 cm.
.
Acanthopyhilla should be kept under moderate lighting (50 - 150 par) as they tend to show more vibrant colours when light is not so intensive.
.
Low and indirect flow will be ideal as acanthophyllias will retract when there is high turbulent flow.
.
Acanthopyhilla should be fed for long term health benefits, however this is not a necessity. A mix of foods can be fed, from mysis shrimp to commercial coral foods.
.
This is a general guideline. Acanthophyllia are tolerable of slightly high nitrates, high phosphate levels will inhibit coral calcification, preventing growth. A good guideline will be to target stable parameters as long as they are within a reasonable range.
