Zoanthids are a soft coral and they are relatively easy to keep as long as proper water parameters are present. They will propagate quickly once established, however they contain palytoxins in their flesh. Ensure care when handling this coral especially when you have open wounds on your hands. The daisy duke zoanthid has different shades of purple for its mouth, rim and skirt. This colony has numerous polyps and is mounted on a 3 cm square plug.
.
Zoanthids can tolerate a wide range of lighting. However, do start them at low to medium light (50-150 par) first before acclimatising them to high light (>150 par).
.
Moderate to high water movement is recommended. The flow prevents detritus from settling on the zoanthids which they will benefit from.
.
Zoanthids derive most of their energy from their zooxanthellae, however zoanthids are capable of being fed. Due to their small structure, smaller foods such as powdered or liquid coral foods will have to be used.
.
This is a general guideline. Zoanthids are tolerable of higher nitrate and phosphate levels, a good guideline will be to target stable parameters as long as they are within a reasonable range.
