Star polyps are a type of hardy soft coral commonly found in most aquariums. They are fast growers that can quickly cover a large area as long as their requirements are met. These specimens have green tentacles with a greenish white mouth, originating from Australia they are large pieces ranging from 3 - 5 inches.
.
Star polyps can tolerate a wide range of lighting and are not sensitive to it.
Moderate to high water movement is recommended. The flow prevents detritus from settling on them which they will benefit from, they also see increased polyp extension and growth from higher water flow.
Star polyps derive most of their energy from their zooxanthellae, however they are capable of being fed. Due to their small structure, smaller foods such as phytoplankton or liquid foods can be used.
This is a general guideline. Star polyps are tolerable of higher nitrate and phosphate levels, a good guideline will be to target stable parameters as long as they are within a reasonable range.
